The Hub team of Louise, Fiona, Shelley and Anne F always use August as a little break and a moment of pause and reflection on our weekly coffee and cake sessions.

We feel it to be beneficial both to our regular supporters and the wider village to reflect on ways in which we have contributed back to the community, which was and always will be, our driving motivation for setting up The Hub in the first instance.

In September we hosted a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research and through the generosity of the village, was able to donate all our takings of £355 , plus covering the costs of hall hire and heating ourselves. A really great total.

Last November we provided a free film night to include a drink of patron’s choice through the bar, kindly staffed by Wayne and Simon.

This was a nice surprise for the people who attended and seemed to go down well. The total coast for the event was £250.

In the same manner and as a recognition of the support of the village, during the last session before the Christmas break, patrons were offered complimentary cake and a hot drink on us.

After researching the type and number of drinks ordered each week, in April this year, we replaced our decaff pod machine, which was regularly refusing to make any more drinks. A new “bean to cup” machine was purchased for £330 in which only decaffeinated beans are used. This has proved to be very popular, as our weekly records are showing a steady growth in requests for this drink.

On 6th June we hosted another free film night, covering the hall and film hire of £116.80 As we were in a heatwave, no heating was needed.

Shortly after this, the Tennis Club hosted their coffee morning which The Hub contributed to by providing use of the coffee machines and making other drinks. All our takings of £152 were then donated to the club for their purposes.

The Hub also contributed to the village fete by donating a £20 gift voucher from Wardon Hill Trading Post and our own voucher of free cake and drink for two people.

We are always on the lookout for ways in which we can support the village and hope that folks can see, by turning up each Friday, how through their cake and hot drink, they are providing the funds for us to continue.

Thank you everyone and see you in September
