Cattistock’s 2024 Christmas Tree

Robert Atkinson has again generously donated a super Christmas Tree to the Cattistock community, and the finished, beautifully lit tree, stands outside the Savill Hall.

A team of Cattistock volunteers met outside the Savill Hall, to raise the tree and add the lights.

Remembrance Sunday Church Service – 10th November.

“The Remembrance Sunday Service this year will be held at Cattistock (we alternate with Maiden Newton).  Our church has been beautifully decorated with poppies organised and arranged by Fiona Fulton and Jacqueline Briggs.  There will be half muffled bells rung from 9.45 to 10.15; when the church service begins.  We culminate the service at the War Memorial in the churchyard when the names of those who died in the wars are read out.  This service includes the surrounding villages/hamlets, so each sends a representative to read the names from their area.  All are welcome to join us for refreshments afterwards.”

Community Apple Day Update

Community Apple Day Update

Dan and Katherine would like to thank everyone who came to the Dorset Star Cider Apple Day recently. The weather was very kind with sunshine all the way. The apple press was busy with so many people donating their own apples for the community press to help make some more delicious apple juice and cider.
Thanks particularly go to all the volunteers that help make it happen as well as the wonderful bands ‘Tin of Wonder’ during the day and the ever-popular Steve Tayton Jazz Quartet with vocals from Natalie and Maria in the evening.
Activities included the delicious Apple Cake competition with one outstanding winner, along with some wonderful wood fired barbecued food prepared and cooked by the kitchen crew. The day included some very interactive stall holders demonstrating things like candle making and how to make your own wooden spoon. There were talks on bee keeping and a chance to chat to the Dorset Wildlife Trust, as well as some great local produce on offer. Children’s activities included the ever popular ‘Apple’ themed games. On top of all that, monies taken on the games will kindly be donated to the local community fund.
The biggest thanks of course go to all those that came along on the day to support the event.
Apple Day is the last event of 2024 as the orchard will be closed until the spring, unless of course they decide to Wassail in January. Watch out for more information!

In the meantime, look out for news on Christmas meat orders of Gammon, Sausages, Bacon and sausage meat.

1st Responders Local Fundraising Update

The 1st Responders fundraising,  that was for some years needed to support mileage charges for our local 1st responders travelling out of their own locality, is no longer needed.   South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) are paying those costs directly to the relevant 1st Responders.  As there is an amount in the bank account which is no longer required for this purpose the monies have been transferred to the Cattistock Community Fund accounts and will be used to support any local applications for funding.    Julian English will no longer be responsible for raising local funding for the 1st Responders.

An Update from the Community Hub Organisers

An Update from the Community Hub Organisers

It has been a year now since we first began running the coffee mornings and so it was time for some reflection.

Whilst the proceeds have allowed us to purchase weekly supplies, cover hall hire, electric costs and also invest in longer-term bigger items to improve the quality of our service, we have also been able to support some smaller community projects.

After some thought and discussion, we have decided that in the interests of transparency, any funds not already allocated to community projects, will be held in Cattistock Community Fund.

This is under the proviso that the Hub funds are ringfenced within the CCF, with the Hub volunteers being able to have complete autonomy on how our funds are used.

The CCF accounts are always available to view on request. The CCF will act as a trustee for our funds which, along with other community funds, will be used for specific community projects that the hub volunteers believe will benefit the village.
