Knob Throwing at the Cattistock Countryside Show – Next Sunday 14th July!!
We will be at the Cattistock Countryside Show: Sunday 14th July 2024
For five long years, a Knob in Dorset has not been thrown. No Knobs have been painted, or pinned to the Cerne Abbas giant, or the weight of a big Knob guessed.
But now the much-famed Dorset Knob Throwing Games are back…………………..
Its 2024 hosts, the Cattistock Countryside Show, have for 62 consecutive years run a traditional family show boasting events for horses, dogs, ponies and now Knob throwers!
The Knob Throwing will see the return of all popular activities and events, as well as local trade stands and main ring attractions within the Cattistock Countryside Show.
The event will take place in the picturesque Chilfrome Valley (9 miles west of Dorchester) on the Sunday 14th of July 2024.

Boule Court Resurfaced and Extended
The Boule Court in the Community Space has now been resurfaced, and extended in width. This should now give a more consistent playing surface, and allow two games to be played concurrently, as will be very useful in the Fete Boule tournament.
The task was carried out by a working party from the village, and you can see images of the action by clicking here:

News Update from The Church of St Peter & St Paul
St Peter & St Paul’s Church has just moved into the 21st century! Over the decades it has seen many changes in the culture of its community, and the PCC has responded to keep up with the latest developments. Recently, as a PCC , we have been concerned that we have been behind the times over methods of payments for donations, and our church does attract a lot of visitors from far afield, so we want to make it as easy as possible for them to support our amazing building.
Cash is being carried around a lot less than it used to be, so we looked into alternative means of donations to give people a choice as to how they do it. We successfully applied to the Church of England for one of a limited number of free contactless donation devices, and at the beginning of May we received and installed it. It makes donating very simple.
So now people can still donate using cash, or through a Debit card on this new machine, or using a QR Code through their phone and Gift Aid can be applied through any method. We hope that by using this clever technology we will attract greater levels of donations to maintain the astonishing building at the heart of Cattistock.
Outside Gym – Regular Meet Up
Fancy a bit of outside fitness, have some fun and a chat that’s just down the road? A few of us are meeting up every Wednesday at 6.00pm in the community space – weather permitting. The outside gym equipment is free, open to all and a great way to catch up, enjoy being outside whilst doing something healthy! There’s info HERE on how to use the equipment if you wish to have a look or just come along and we can learn together!. Hope to see you there.

Cattistock Community Hub Review
We started “The Hub” coffee mornings in the village hall in September of 2023, aware that there was a need for a social space for the whole community, including outside visitors, to gather over an affordable hot drink and home baked cake, chat to old friends and an opportunity to make new.
Our Community Hub has been operational for six months now, with a rolling team of 20 volunteers who help on a weekly basis either with baking, serving, setting up, making drinks, taking payment, and clearing away.
During those six months we have served on average 40-50 drinks during each weekly session with continued support from loyal villagers but now with more visitors coming week on week from further away as word spreads.
We are noticing visitors popping in from Maiden Newton, Frome St. Quentin, Melbury Bubb, Chalmington and other villages nearby.
Together with paying for weekly hall hire, heating and hot water in the kitchen, we have been able to buy a fast boil kettle, over 40 mugs, wipe clean vinyl tablecloths, a choice of games, puzzles, and colouring activities, two bean to cup coffee machines and our own Sum Up credit and debit card machine.
Our future vision is for the hub is to contribute towards the community as a whole and we would welcome any suggestions that might be suitable for us to support.
So far, we have been able to finance a disco evening for the village, as well as raising £505.07 for Macmillan Cancer Support because of a very successful and well supported Macmillan Coffee Morning. We have also had two wonderful sessions where local jazz musicians have performed for us, regular drop ins from our Police Community Support Officer and a visit from the Community Speed Watch Coordinator.
After hearing about the success of the hub, the NHS Jurassic Social Prescribers, based out of Maiden Newton and Beaminster Surgeries, dropped by to see us recently. They were very impressed with the community camaraderie and have approached us about offering periodical drop ins. Their approach is one that aims to connect people to activities, groups, and services in their community to meet practical, social, and emotional needs affecting their health and wellbeing. The Social Prescribers will be available to chat to in a very informal manner to see how they can help address concerns.
Keep watching our hub posts on Cattistock and surrounding villages Facebook page, Cattistock Village Instagram, The Chimes and the village website for future events and drop ins. Please do encourage others who might find enjoying our positive and uplifting Friday mornings beneficial.
We thank our lovely volunteers as always, for their continued commitment and support.

Cattistock Craft Fair – Sunday 31st March 2024
Cattistock will be holding its first Craft Fair, in conjunction with a Scarecrow Trail and Easter Egg Hunt through the village on Easter Sunday. The event will run from noon- 5pm and is promising to be an exciting afternoon.
We have a very broad range of stalls encompassing both artisan professionals and gifted local amateur crafters. There are currently twelve confirmed stall holders with more still to come, situated either in both our beautiful church, St. Peter and St. Paul’s and the village hall.
In the hall we will be offering hot drinks and a selection of homemade bakes with the opportunity to see some of the techniques and skilled workmanship in action.
All proceeds will be going to the continued upkeep of our lovely local, but also nationally, important church. Do come!
