July is the month where we pack away the coffee machines, fold the tea towels and have a moment of pause and reflection during August, ready to come back to serve our community every Friday from the first week of September. The Hub has continued to develop as we had hoped it would, in that we have had regular drop-ins from Sarah Pilcher, the Community Police Office for our area who is always a listening ear for any concerns residents might have. We also had a representative from the Army Veterans Society who came along to ensure ex and current servicemen and women were aware of the services available to them.

It has also become a useful drop-off point for flyers advertising local events such as Open Gardens weekend, concerts in the Church and the Film Nights. The Hub has hosted three free film nights complete with popcorn for the village during the last year which have been very enjoyable and our way of giving back to the village community.

We also chose to make a donation of one week’s takings to a charity Merrily Harpur supported, in her memory. She designed The Hub poster we advertise with and felt this was appropriate.

At Easter time the Hub raffled off some egg prizes and the proceeds from that as well as that day’s takings were donated to the Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser. A contribution we are most proud of is a donation of £150 to the Indoor Kurling sessions on Thursday afternoons. These are open to everyone to participate in and are a totally inclusive activity. The Kurling organisers have now managed to purchase more equipment, enabling a greater number of people to play.

The Hub is also proud to support the Silent Auction at the summer fete with a sponsored bid again. We hope the winning bidder will enjoy what we have arranged for them.

Recently, the Hub has worked in conjunction with the tennis club, helping host their annual coffee morning and donated the hub takings to the club.

We are always so grateful to the weekly bakers who supply us with wonderful baked goods and so this year we decided that each baker would be given a token of our appreciation, in order to cover their ingredient costs. We cannot do any of it without our volunteer helpers so many thanks to you all and a special thank you to Anne Francis and Shelley Collins who have stepped up this year in running some of the sessions for us.

Thank you Cattistock- keep coming along and keep eating the cake!
