Speed limit in Cattistock

Cattistock Community Speed Watch (CSW)

A number of Cattistock residents have expressed concerns about speeding in the village, especially given that we have a considerable number of children and horses and the fact that there are no pavements.

The main aims of the Community Speed Watch (CSW) are to educate drivers who exceed the speed limit and to obtain evidence, which Dorset Council require before they can consider any change to the speed limit.

Interestingly, across Dorset, CSWs on their own have helped to prevent speeding. Over 12 months, County wide, the sending of advisory letters has been shown to have a positive effect with a 1st letter sent to 9,400 drivers, a 2nd letter to just 340, and only 34 receiving a 3rd.

Our Volunteers only operate at approved police sites and are trained to use speed monitoring equipment. In the coming months, you will see us, in our Hi-Viz jackets, raising awareness of the need to reduce speed and keep our community safe.

Maria Attwood is the CSW Coordinator for Dorset Police/Dorset Road Safe.
