You may not have seen anything happening, but behind the scenes work continues on preparing the lamp in Simon’s barn.
Thanks to a splendid effort by James Blunt, the heavy cast base from the original lamp (inscribed with Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee of 1887) has now been primed and painted. The lamp post has also been painted and a wooden template made of the fixing for the lamp post to the base. This will then be fabricated in steel. The lantern has been assembled and will need a little welding and some new glass but is complete. Another small fabrication will be required for the fitting of the lantern to the post. Once these jobs have been completed we will be able to start on the electrics and the concrete base.
Thanks to Simon, Wayne, Chris and especially James for the continuing progress towards reinstating our old village lamp.
